Local & National Involvement - Department of Labor

The Executive Director of the Rhode Island Indian Council is a member of The Native American Employment and Training Council (NINAETC) and therefore provides advice to the Secretary of Labor regarding the overall operation and administration of Native American programs authorized under Section 166 of the Workforce Investment Act, as well as the implementation of other programs providing services to Native American youth and adults under this Act.

 The Council functions solely as an advisory body and in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). Its specific duties are to:

  • Advise the Secretary on all aspects of the operation and administration of the programs assisted under the Workforce Investment Act, Section 166.

  • Advise the Secretary regarding the selection of the individual appointed as the head of the Division of Indian and Native American Programs." Excerpt from NAETC Charter 2003
