The RIIC annual Pow Wow has been taking place on the third weekend of July since its beginnings in the 1970s. The sacred fire is started on Saturday morning at sun up and is kept lit until the end of the Pow Wow on Sunday. The Pow Wow grounds are located at Roger Williams Park in Providence, between the Carousel and the Temple of Music. Native Americans from all over the country and other Native people from around the world have attended, including tribes from Canada, all of the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia and other parts of South America.
